TROUBLESHOOTING

Problem

Possible Cause

What makes Arbortech blades so safe to use?

  • Arbortech shaping blades are designed with safety in mind. Designed to German BG Safety Standards (recognised to be the most stringent in the world), the blades rotate away from the user, so that in the unlikely event of loss of control, the tool pulls away - not towards - the user. The round teeth and BG Safety profile ensure a steady cut without grabbing but with a smooth finish. The Industrial Woodcarver is milled from a single piece of steel meaning there are no loose moving parts, or chains to break and fly off.

What does my grinder need to fit the Industrial Woodcarver Pro Kit?

  • A metal guard that can be rotated and fixed to 45 degrees
  • An auxiliary handle
  • The on/off switch positioned on the top or side
  • At least 550 Watts power

WARNING: The Industrial Woodcarver should always be used with the Arbortech Pro-guard supplied in the Industrial Pro Kit.

How do I fit the Pro-Kit to my angle grinder?

  • Set the angle grinders original metal guard at approximately 45 degrees to the body of the grinder as in Diagram 1.
  • Mount the Industrial to the grinder in the centre of the metal guard, using the washers provided where appropriate. Ensure that the Industrial Woodcarver will be rotating away from the user when in use.
  • Fit the angle grinder's auxiliary handle making sure that it is positioned on the right side of the grinder. Fixing the auxiliary handle on the wrong side of the grinder, Diagram 2, causes the disc to rotate in the wrong direction with subsequent loss of control and possible injury.
  • Fit the Pro Guard using the fitting instructions provided with the packaging. Diagram 3.

Do I need to have the grinder's handle fitted?

YES! If your angle grinder is an older model and only has one handle port, now is the time to invest in a new one.

· The Pro Guard is attached using the auxiliary handle port, which leaves one port left to attach the grinder's handle to.

Do not use an angle grinder fitted with Arbortech shaping blades if you cannot fit both the Pro Guard AND the grinder handle.

How (and when!) do I rotate the tungsten teeth?

  • The tungsten teeth are very tough and will cut hard abrasive timbers without rapid blunting.
  • After several months (depending on duration of use), turn the tooth approximately 1/4 turn to reveal a new, sharp, edge for carving.
  • Using the Torx Key provided in the Industrial Pro Kit, slacken the screw and rotate the tungsten tooth the desired amount. Re-tighten the screw and repeat the procedure with the remaining teeth.

I want to get a dedicated angle grinder for the Woodcarver, what should I look for?

The Industrial Pro Kit (IND.FG.200) fits most 4" (100mm) and 4 1/2" (115mm) angle grinders. When choosing an angle grinder to suit the Industrial Woodcarver, you should look for the following features:-

Can I use the tool with a damaged blade?

No, stop immediately if a tooth is damaged as you may damage the cutter frame.

I cannot undo the tungsten teeth on my Industrial Woodcarver?

  • Soak the blade screws with penetrating oil over night.

  • Tap the torx key gently into the screws to loosen or remove the cutters.

To remove the organic matter in the head of the screws soak the blade in Caustic Soda overnight

Tips & Special Care of the Industrial Pro Kit

Although tungsten carbide is a very hard material (150 degrees Rockwell), it is also very brittle so any plunging or stabbing action may cause the teeth to crack and disintegrate. This is true of any carbide cutters such as router bits, general tooling and saw blades.

Tungsten Teeth can be damaged (or broken) for a number of reasons including the following:

  1. Working the cutter too vigorously such that the user 'drops' the cutter into/onto the surface of the wood rather than using a lighter starting cut. More pressure may be applied once the cutter has landed on the surface of the wood.
  2. To avoid breakage, and to ensure that the screws are easy to unlock when they need to be rotated or replaced, it is important before every use (and every few hours during use) to unplug the grinder and unlock each screw and re-tighten. This ensures that the teeth are firmly secured.

IMPORTANT: Unlock and re-tighten the screws regularly.
